The increasing number of Pakistani students studying abroad reflects a general growth of student migration as compared to any other Asian country. Statistics suggests that the most popular destinations for Pakistani students are the UK, Australia, Canada, Cyprus, Japan and Malaysia and USA. According to HESA, a massive number of 4,080 students from Pakistan came in the UK alone during the academic year 2010 – 11.
In the year 2007- 08 Australia saw 2,879 students arriving from Pakistan and this figure increased by 30% in 2010-11. The number of Pakistani students going to the US, Australia, Canada, Cyprus, Japan and Malaysia and Germany also increased.
UNESCO data shows that this trend is a reflection of the increase in the total number of Asian students going to Cyprus, although the rise is particularly steep for Pakistanis.
Many colleges and universities are looking to extend the geographic reach of their recruiting activities especially in Pakistan, where the prospective students demonstrate a greater willingness to travel internationally to obtain the best possible education. The students and their families are committed to make significant financial investment, and actively explore international educational horizons.
